Discipling Nations is a organisation offering part-time evangelism and missions training to mobilise God’s people for cross-cultural ministry locally and to the ends of the world. The aim of this training is to provide churches with evangelistic and missionary training that is affordable, accessible and academically attainable. It integrates a solid Biblical foundation with hands on practical training.
The Discipling Nations School of Mission was started in 2010 in Cape Town because Africa is changing from a mission field to a mission force, but very few believers are being equipped appropriately for cross-cultural mission in the African context. The aim is to provide missionary training that is affordable, accessible and academically attainable. This is done by partnering with local churches, local Bible schools and mission organizations. The churches we partner with feel that at this stage academic accreditation is not important. We do however help those who want to continue with academic study in mission and theology.
Mission training is done as an integrated part of the life and ministry of the church, following Paul’s strategy of integrating evangelism, the establishing of churches and the development of leaders. The target group is pastors, church leaders and church members involved in mission as well as those preparing for short term and long-term mission through local churches or mission organisations. The principle of Discipling Nations is that local churches and local Bible colleges will provide the students, infra-structure and administration. Leaders from these churches are being trained to eventually take over the mission training in their churches.
The ‘ends of the earth’ have come to ‘Jerusalem’; every local church has a mission field on its doorstep. A model emphasising in-service training in the context of the local church, with discipleship as a key element, seems best suited to the current needs of the African Church.
